ASU tennis teams back in action

MONTGOMERY—Alabama State University's tennis teams will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when they host Tuskegee University at 10 a.m. at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

The men's team started the season dropping their first three matches, including a tough 4-3 loss to Stillman College.  ASU was able to defeat SWAC-rival Alabama A&M University 6-1 in their last outing and will look to build on that win.

"Our men's team is a very improved and competitive group," head coach Bernard Sewell said.  "They have a great work ethic and are looking forward to playing Tuskegee this weekend.  I am expecting them to go out and compete hard against Tuskegee."

Tuskegee's men's team will enter the match looking for their first win of the season.  They dropped their first two matches of the season.

The women sport the same 1-3 record with a solid 5-2 win over Stillman College.  ASU is playing two players down right now and that was one of the reason's they lost a tough outing to Alabama A&M University 5-2 in their last match.  They are looking to get back on the winning track when they host Tuskegee on Saturday.

"We have had some early season injuries with our women's program and will be going into the match two players down and two points down before the match begins," Sewell said.  "In spite of the circumstances, the players are very competitive and they play with the pride of ASU and they continue to compete even though it appears they may not have a chance to win."

The Tuskegee women's team has split their first two matches to open the season and will be looking to add to their 1-1 record.
