Bama's Larsen a candidate for Lowe's Sr. CLASS Softball Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Alabama senior infielder Whitney Larsen (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) was named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

A communications major, Larsen was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America in 2009. She's also a three-year member of both the Southeastern Conference honor roll and the University of Alabama Dean's List.

Larsen has participated in several community-outreach programs including the Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger canned food drive, Easter Seals Walk with Me, handing out softball season tickets to members of the community and volunteering at the Tuscaloosa County Animal Shelter.

She also spoke at Tuscaloosa Middle School on National Girls and Women in Sports Day and has volunteered at several youth softball team practices and the RISE program.

On the field Larsen holds the school's all-time grand slams record, has led her team to two trips to the Women's College World Series and will attempt to do that once again as a senior. Last year Larsen put together a career-year en route to being selected as an All-SEC member.

Alabama has been a mainstay on the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award as Charlotte Morgan won the prestigious honor last season. The Crimson Tide has had a finalist in three straight seasons.
