AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - NBC Nightly News, the nation's number one nightly news broadcast, sent a report to Auburn, Ala. Thursday to feature the plight of the school's famed 130 year old oak trees.
The trees, which stand at the entrance of Auburn University on the corner of Magnolia and College were poisoned in November.
Only after a caller to a national sports radio show claimed responsibility for the act did authorities realize the severity of the situation.
NBC Nightly News reporter Ron Mott discussed the school's tradition of rolling Toomer's Corner after athletic victories, the suspect and fan reaction.
NBC Nightly News, based out of New York, New York chose the final slot in its Thursday evening broadcast rundown to focus on the trees' plight, asking if a rivalry has gone too far.
