Senators fall to William Carey, 60-48

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Junior Stephen Jordan posted his seventh double-double of the season, but the Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball team fell  to William Carey 60-48 Thursday at Clinton Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Senators fell to 8-16 on the season and 5-5 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. William Carey improved to 16-10 overall and 6-3 in league games.

Jordan finished with game-highs in both points and rebounds, finishing with 16 and 14, respectively. Junior Jerry Stangline also scored in double figures for the Senators, finishing with 10 points, while junior Michael Lee added nine points off the bench.

The Crusaders jumped out early with a 12-0 run, and continued the 12-point margin for the remainder of the first half.  AUM was unable to rally and trailed 38-19 at intermission.

William Carey led the entire contest, at one point by 27 points. However, the Senators closed the gap to 12 in the final minutes of the contest to fall 60-48.

For the game, the Senators struggled from the floor, converting 35.3 percent of their shots, but just 2-of-15 from behind the arc. AUM also knocked down just 10-of-21 free throws and committed 16 turnovers.

Drew Meyerchick finished with 16 points, and Marcus Spann finished with 10 points pacing the Crusaders.

AUM will continue its road trip when it travels Saturday, to New Orleans, La., to take on Loyola University. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
