Troy athlete earns Sun Belt honor

NEW ORLEANS, La. The Sun Belt Conference released their Player and Pitcher of the Week this afternoon, and for the first time this season a Troy University student-athlete is rewarded for her work on the field.

Junior Nikki Hollett (Melbourne, Australia/Wesley College) was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, just a day after being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Quality Inn Classic in Troy. The junior hit .500 in five games, connecting on nine hits in 18 plate appearances. She continues to move up the career home run charts at the school, as she is now third all-time in home runs after connecting for another three this weekend.

Not only did she blast the ball out of the park, but she also connected on three doubles and a triple; all while driving in 10 runs and slugging 1.278 in five games. Hollett recorded multiple hits in three of the five games this weekend, and had hits in all five contests. She also recorded multiple RBI in four of the five contests for the Trojans.

The junior recorded an on-base percentage of .571; and her best game at the plate came against Bradley as she went 3-for-5, with two RBI, a double and a triple in an 8-7 victory in nine innings.
