Bama player named SEC women's basketball player of the week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior guard Ericka Russell was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week for women's basketball, which was announced by the league office on Monday. Russell had a pair of solid performances that helped lead the Crimson Tide to victories against Auburn and Mississippi to give Alabama three SEC wins in a row.

Russell was instrumental in lifting the Tide over the Rebels on Sunday where she scored a game-high, and season-best, 21 points. More importantly, when Mississippi closed the gap to one point with 8:08 remaining in the game, she nailed a three-pointer and had a pair of steals that she converted to fast break layups to seal the victory for Alabama. Russell would finish the game with a career-high four thefts.

Russell also recorded 12 points, all of which were scored from three-point range, four assists, two rebounds and one steal in the Tide's victory at Auburn.

For the week, she averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals.

Alabama will be back in action on Thursday when it hosts Mississippi State in the Tide's final home game of the season. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT in Foster Auditorium.
