BIRMINGHAM, Ala. University of Alabama sophomore Tony Mitchell has been named the Southeastern Conference men's basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Mitchell, a 6-6 forward, led Alabama to the Western Division title with a pair of wins over LSU and Arkansas. In the win over the Razorbacks he turned in a career-high 27 points with nine rebounds, six on offense, three assists, two blocks and two steals. His work on the offensive glass and defense led to 22 points to make him responsible for 49 of the team's 69 points. He converted on 11 of his 15 shots and was a perfect 10-of-10 from inside the three-point arc.

In the week's opener at LSU, he scored 13 points in a team-high 38 minutes to average 20 points and 6.5 rebounds on the week. Mitchell has scored 20 or more points in five of his last six games.
