Bama men's basketball set to host Auburn

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. The University of Alabama men's basketball team begins the final quarter of its Southeastern Conference schedule on Wednesday evening when it hosts Auburn. The latest installment in the in-state rivalry is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. with the contest being televised on SEC Network affiliates and on broadcast on radio courtesy of the Crimson Tide Sports Network.

The SEC Western Division champion Crimson Tide has won 13 of its last 15 games and is a sterling 14-0 at home this season to post a 10-2 league record and an 18-8 overall mark.

The Tide welcomes an Auburn squad with a 2-10 league record a 9-17 overall ledger to Tuscaloosa for the second meeting between the two rivals this season. Alabama defeated the Tigers, 68-58, in the first meeting on Jan. 22.

"I was really impressed the first time we played them in terms of how hard they played," UA head coach Anthony Grant said. "They've played very well down the stretch and I've been impressed with what I've seen. We expect Auburn to come in and gives us everything they've got."

The Tide is led by reigning SEC Player of the Week Tony Mitchell who put up a career-high 27 points in his last game and is averaging 16.1 points per game this season on 54.9 percent shooting with a team-high 45 steals.

"Tony understands how he can be effective and is a guy that excels in transition on the open floor," Grant said. "He's got a great nose for the basketball. We have a team that understands where we can be successful and I think they play well together."

That togetherness has produced a defensive effort that is fifth in the nation with just 58.2 points per game with opponents shooting just 37.1 percent, the third lowest average in the nation.

Approximately 1,500 tickets remain for Wednesday' game against Auburn and may be purchased at or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-877-TIDE-TIX.
