Trojans hit road Wednesday to face Florida Atlantic

TROY, Ala. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Troy University women's basketball team will end the season much like the started it … on the road. This time, the Trojans will head south to take on Florida Atlantic on Wednesday night.

The game tips at 7 p.m. (EST) at FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Florida.

Troy (5-22, 2-12 Sun Belt) trails Florida Atlantic by one game in the Sun Belt Conference East Division. However, the Trojans defeated Florida Atlantic at home in January and with a win on Wednesday night the Trojans would own the tiebreaker against the Owls. If the Trojans win and can get some help from South Alabama this weekend, Troy would move to fifth in the East Division and face the fourth seed from the West.

Currently, the Trojans are the sixth seed and are scheduled to face the third seed in the West Division – currently ULM.

The Trojans defeated Florida Atlantic (6-19, 3-11 Sun Belt) on January 2, a game which was played on the Sun Belt Network, 64-57. In that contest, the Trojans were led by Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) with a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds. Junior DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) added 12 points, while Jamesha Blake (Atlanta, Ga./SW DeKalb HS) added a career-high 10 points.

Troy is led this season in scoring by McNair at 14.2 points per game, while also averaging 8.3 rebounds per game. Both totals are good enough to place McNair in the top 10 in the conference, while she has also recorded 10 double-doubles this season. Meanwhile, Sword is the only other Trojan in double figures; averaging 13.1 points per game.

Junior Tenia Manuel (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg HS) is averaging 8.7 points and is in the top 20 in rebounding in the Sun Belt Conference; averaging 5.8 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, sophomore Sophie Kleeman (Newcastle, Australia/Newcastle HS) leads the Sun Belt Conference in minutes played as she averages 39.1 minutes per game, playing all but four minutes of action in Sun Belt Conference games.

Florida Atlantic leads the all-time series 13-12 heading into tonight's matchup.
