Troy women's basketball team closes out regular season Saturday

BOCA RATON, Fla. The Troy University women's basketball team closes out the regular season Saturday afternoon at US Century Bank Arena, where they will take on FIU at 4:30 pm (EST).

Troy (5-23, 2-13 Sun Belt) is locked into the sixth seed out of the East Division for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament. They will either face ULM (14-14, 8-7 Sun Belt) or Arkansas State (15-13, 8-7 Sun Belt) as the third seed out of the West Division. ULM holds the tiebreaker over Arkansas State by virtue of head-to-head competition, so a win by the Warhawks and they will be the third seed in the tournament next weekend.

Meanwhile, Saturday's opponent, FIU (14-15, 8-6 Sun Belt) is currently tied with WKU for the second seed out of the West Division. However, by virtue of head-to-head competition, the Golden Panthers have the tiebreaker over WKU meaning a win on Saturday would give them a bye in the opening round of the tournament.

FIU defeated Troy 57-53 in the first meeting between the two schools back on February 3. In that contest, senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) led the Trojans with her ninth double-double of the season as she poured in 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the bigger post players from FIU. Tenia Manuel (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg HS) added 13 points, while Sword added 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Meanwhile, FIU placed three players in doubles figures with Coley leading the way with 14 points and seven rebounds. Gonzalez added 11 and Fanni Hutlassa 10 off the bench.

The Trojans have won back-to-back games in Miami over the past two seasons, and have closed out the regular season the last two seasons with victories – including last season defeating Arkansas State to earn the eighth seed in the tournament.
