TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 2-ranked Alabama softball team opened the USF Fairfield Inn and Suites Tournament with a 7-0 victory over Illinois State, Friday afternoon at the brand new USF Softball Stadium. After the win, the Crimson Tide remains perfect at 12-0 on the season.

Traina returned to her home state in impressive fashion as she scattered just three hits and struck out nine in six innings in the circle. She also batted 2-for-4 with four RBI.

The Crimson Tide added another in the third when Traina helped her own cause. The rookie hit a sharp liner through the right side to plate Braud from second. Braud extended her 20-game hitting streak by reaching on an infield single and then promptly swiped second.

Alabama continued its scoring ways in the fourth inning freshman Kaila Hunt homered over the right field wall to give the Tide a 3-0 advantage. The home run was the second on the season for the rookie.

In her first appearance of the season, junior Amanda Locke was called upon to pinch hit and did not disappoint and she flared the second pitch she saw into left field to score Larsen from third. Larsen started the rally with a double off the centerfield wall.

Traina broke the game wide open in the seventh inning when the freshman hit a prodigious blast into the construction zone in left field to give Alabama the final score of 7-0.
