MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A popular Montgomery burger stand is closing near Gunter Annex. It's not closing due to the economy, but because of health regulations. Vicki's Lunch Van, off Congressman Dickinson Drive, has been serving up burgers and more for 9 years.
"It's the best kept secret in Montgomery, but if you came here at noon, it didn't look like a secret."
Owner Vicki Lammon says the health department told her the stand was operating outside of regulations.
"They really been lenient, truly over the last nine years, so in order to just keep everything smooth, I've just chose to let it go," Lammon said.
It was sad news for frequent customer Gina Nicolich and her daughter, who moved to Montgomery from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
"The atmosphere, getting to talk to them, just a lot of things," she said. "I feel like I'm losing something."It feels like home, I miss home. It feels like I'm home, even though I'm not at home."
With hugs, they said good-bye to the people that had become their friends...but hopefully not for long.
"I'm going to pop up somewhere bigger and better, hopefully and still the same," Lammon said.
That's because Lammon says she hopes to find a location where she can re-open. She asks customers to head to their Facebook page for more updates.
