No. 25 Auburn baseball heads to Charleston, S.C. for CofC Classic

AUBURN, Ala. After playing nine home games to start the season the No. 25 Auburn baseball team heads to Charleston, S.C., this weekend for the CofC Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.

Auburn (6-3) will face New York Tech (0-0) on Friday at noon CT, the host College of Charleston (8-1) at noon on Saturday and Western Kentucky (5-3) at 10am on Sunday.

Auburn will start Jr. LHP Cory Luckie (0-1, 4.91) against New York Tech, So. RHP Slade Smith (1-0, 6.10) against College of Charleston and Jr. RHP Derek Varnadore (2-0, 0.00) against Western Kentucky.

New York Tech will start Sr. RHP Preston Wasmund (0-0, 0.00) on Friday, the College of Charleston will throw Jr. LHP Josh Renfro (2-0, 1.64) against Auburn and Western Kentucky will start So. RHP Taylor Haydel (1-1, 5.84) on Sunday.

Justin Hargett brings a nine-game hitting streak into the weekend, one off his career high, while Varnadore, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, has allowed just five hits in 16 innings of work while striking out 17.

Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski was the head coach at the College of Charleston for nine years before making the move to Auburn. Current Auburn Assistant Coach Scott Foxhall also played and coached at Charleston.
