Jeff's Journal - #11

It's time to do some serious picking. During football season, Jeff's Journal will be your source for SEC prognostications, as well as predictions for Troy State, Alabama State and Tuskegee.

Let's start in the Southeastern Conference.

Ole Miss at Vanderbilt - They're expecting 30,000 at Vanderbilt Stadium. Half of them will be cheering for Eli and the Rebels.   Ole Miss 35, Vanderbilt 10

Georgia at Clemson - Georgia's secondary is depleted. Tommy Bowden's eyes are getting big. But I've taken up a lot of Journal space extolling the Dawgs' virtues, so I'm not bailing on them now. Georgia 28, Clemson 21

Fresno State at Tennessee - I was impressed by the Vols during our Journey around the SEC. Fresno State might not be in a hurry to return to Neyland Stadium.  Tennessee 31, Fresno State 14

San Jose State at Florida - Has there ever been LESS hype for a Florida team? The mystique is gone, but there are plenty of Parade All-Americans in Gator Country.  Florida 38, San Jose State 21

Louisiana-Monroe at LSU - The biggest potential for a blowout of any of the SEC openers. LSU 42, Louisiana-Monroe 14

Louisiana-Lafayette at South Carolina  - The Gamecocks lost their last 5 games of last season. That streak is about to end.  South Carolina 27, Louisiana-Lafayette 13

Oregon at Mississippi State - Jackie Sherrill is defiant as ever. He tells me he's looking forward to "repaying some knots." Call me crazy, but I'm starting to believe him.  Mississippi State 24, Oregon 21

Louisville at Kentucky - Nothing like an in-state rivalry to begin the season. Former Auburn coach Bobby Petrino recruited well in his first season at Louisville. Will Montgomery's Deriontae "Bus" Taylor get a chance to run down the "Hefty Lefty" - Wildcats quarterback Jared Lorenzen? Kentucky 35, Louisville 28

South Florida at Alabama - Congratulations Coach Shula. The honeymoon is not over yet. Alabama 28, South Florida 17

Southern Cal at Auburn - The Trojans are coming to town one day early to adjust to the humidity. This is my 13th football season in the South, and I'm still not adjusted. Auburn 31, Southern Cal 24

Troy State at Kansas State - The paycheck is nice, but the Wildcats are not. Kansas State 34, Troy State 14

Alabama State vs. Florida A&M - How can you expect the Hornets to be competitive after all they've been through this fall? Not against the Rattlers. A Motor City Meltdown. Florida A&M 34, Alabama State 17

Miles vs. Tuskegee - Rick Comegy's back. That's good news for the Golden Tigers, bad news for the rest of the SIAC. Tuskegee 34, Miles 7

That's the way I see it. What do you think? The feedback forum is ready for your opinion. Until next week, God bless - Jeff
