PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Alabama State Troopers say the driver of a tractor trailer was arrested and taken to a Montgomery hospital following a chase down Interstate 65.

The incident started around 2:30pm Monday when an Alabama Department of Revenue enforcement officer stopped the 18-wheeler near the 196 mile marker along I-65 south.

The officer noticed that the driver was bleeding from one of his wrists and had locked himself inside the truck cab. The driver then left the scene, and according to investigators, ignored all efforts by law enforcement to bring his vehicle to a safe stop.

Authorities disabled the truck with spike strips, and it came to a stop at the 183 mile marker in Autauga County.

Police say a brief standoff ended after the Chilton County Sheriff's Department's tactical team deployed tear gas into the cab of the truck.

The man, unidentified, was taken into custody and transported to a Montgomery hospital.
