TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior Bud Cauley was chosen as the SEC Golfer of the Week the conference office announced on Thursday after medalist honors at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
It was the first medalist honor of the season for Cauley who fired a tournament record 9-under-par 201 at the Palmetto Club. He fired rounds of 66, 66 and 69 to record a five-stroke victory while recording 15 birdies and two eagles
His performance helped the Crimson Tide captured its third straight tournament title with a win at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate and its fourth victory of the season.
It was Cauley's fourth career win at the Capstone and his fourth top-five finish in seven tournaments this season. He posted a runner-up finish in his previous outing this spring at the Puerto Rico Classic.
Cauley has lowered is scoring average to a career-best 70.52 for the season and has shot 18-under par in two events this spring for 68.0 stroke average.
A member of the Hogan Award Watch List, Cauley ranks 15th in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index while leading the SEC in stroke average.
Following the victory this past Tuesday in South Carolina, the Crimson Tide will have almost two weeks off before returning to action at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championships at the Hawk's Ridge Golf Club in Greensboro, Ga., on March 20-22.
