Men's track & field sends five to College Station

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 21 ranked University of Alabama men's track and field team will send five athletes to the 2011 NCAA Division I Track & Field Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 to compete for national championships in four different events.

The Crimson Tide will be represented by sophomore Kirani James in the 400m, senior Fred Samoei in the 800m and freshman Kamal Fuller in the long jump, along with the school's distance medley relay team of Joel Rop, James, Samoei and Emmanuel Bor.

James, who was named Southeastern Conference Runner of the Year on Monday, automatically qualified for the 400m by posting a 44.80 at the SEC Indoor Championships last month. The sophomore All-American also automatically qualified and holds the fastest time in the nation in the 200m, however will not participate in that event this weekend due to a scheduling conflict.

Fuller who received the 14th seed in the long jump, is one of only three freshmen to make the field of 16. The freshman from Jamaica posted a personal best 25-6.25 at the Alex Wilson Invitational over the weekend at the University of Notre Dame.

Samoei received the seventh seed in the 800m after he ran a 1:47.41 at the Husky Classic last month in Seattle to automatically qualify for the event.

The Alabama Distance Medley Relay team snatched the 12th and final spot in the competitive DMR field at nationals by posting a 9:33.77 in South Bend, Ind., over the weekend.
