AUBURN, Ala. – Senior catcher Tony Caldwell is on the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John's Pizza, it was announced on Thursday by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. Caldwell is on the list for the third time in his career after being added to the list midway through his sophomore season and starting his junior season on the list.
Through 13 games this season Caldwell has thrown out 50 percent of attempted stolen bases, has picked a man off first and has been charged with just one passed ball. At the plate he goes into the weekend series against No. 7 Arizona State with a .205 batting average with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored.
Forty-two catchers were nominated for the award. Because the award is given annually to the top Division I catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 6. The list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists on May 19 and the finalists will be announced on June 6. The winner will be announced on June 30 in Wichita, Kan.

Wise of Oklahoma (2009), Buster Posey of Florida State (2008), Edward Easley of Mississippi State (2007), Jake Smith of East Carolina (2006), Jeff Clement of Southern Cal (2005), Kurt Suzuki of Cal State Fullerton (2004), Ryan Garko of Stanford (2003), Jeremy Brown of Alabama (2002), Kellly Shoppach of Baylor (2001) and Brad Cresse of LSU (2000).
