ATHENS, Ga. – Alabama senior Adam Booher finished third off the 1-meter board on the first day of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships being held at Gabrielson Natatorium in Athens, Ga. this week.
With his bronze-medal finish, Booher assured himself one of the nine slots available out of Zone B to the upcoming NCAA Championships after scoring 726.65 points over 12 dives.
"Adam did a super job today, and I'm very proud of him," UA diving coach Pat Greenwell said. "He really represented the Tide well."
The Washington, D.C. native was the first alternate to the NCAA Championships out of Zone B as a junior. Earlier this season he took fourth off both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the SEC Championships.
Freshman Jacob Carloni finished 27th off the 1-meter, scoring 267.20 over six dives while freshman Luke Zippi was 29th with 263.85 points. Sophomore Peter Hillyer took 37th after scoring 242.25.
On the women's side of the meet freshman Callan Buck took 13th off the 3-meter board with 582.25 points over 12 dives while freshman Paige McCleary was 15th after scoring 577.70 points. Senior Olivia Covey took 20th place in prelims of the 3-meter competition after totaling 270.60 points over six dives.
The NCAA Zone B Championships continue Friday with the men competing off the 3-meter board and the women off the 1-meter. Both the men and women will compete off the platform to finish off the competition on Saturday.
