JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Alabama State University softball team dropped its opening game at the University of North Florida Osprey Invitational 17-5 to Delaware State University.
The Lady Hornets made it easy for DSU as they committed six errors over the course of the game allowing nine unearned runs to cross the plate.
DSU scored all the runs they would need in the first inning as they scored nine runs in the inning. ASU committed five errors in the inning while walking two batters and hitting another. DSU only had three hits in the inning.
ASU made cut into the lead by scoring one run in the third and pushing across four runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 9-5.
From there DSU would put the game away by scoring their final eight runs in the bottom of the fourth as they collected four hits and took advantage of another costly ASU error.
ASU collected eight hits in the game withBrehanna Rodrigues collecting two of those. Ayesha Famble had two RBI while Akesia Cloud, Sosefina Toilolo and Macy Rodriguez also collected RBI.
DSU also collected eight hits with Tawny Reeger and Breanne Parr collecting two each. Stephanie Martello had three RBI and Parr collected two.
Stephanie Hernandez (2-6) was the loser for ASU and Ashlyn Campbell (2-1) was the winner. ASU is now 3-12 on the season while DSU moves to 6-6.
The Lady Hornets will play two games tomorrow in the invitational. ASU will face the University of Kansas at 10 a.m. followed by an afternoon game against St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
