Hornets baseball hosts Miss. Valley St.

MONTGOMERY—The Alabama State University returns home for a weekend series with Southwestern Athletic Conference foe, Mississippi Valley State University. 

The Hornets will enter the contest with a 5-6 overall record and 1-1 in conference action.  This will mark ASU's first conference action since opening the SWAC season splitting two games with Jackson State University back on March 6th.  ASU is tied for third place in the Eastern Division of the SWAC. 

Jordan Mims has a .314 and has scored five runs and has two doubles.  Jourdan Mott is hitting .270 with two home runs and a team-high 11 RBI. 

Devin Dominguez leads the team on the mound with a 3-2 record and has a 3.27 earned run average.  He has 12 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. 

The Delta Devils enter the game in first place in the Eastern Division with a 4-1 record.  Overall MVSU is 4-14.  This will be the first road conference games for MVSU who are 4-1 at home, but 0-13 on the road. 

Scott Hornstra leads MVSU in batting (.415) and home runs (3).  Jerry Hildreth is hitting .315 and leads the team with 16 runs scored and six stolen bases.

On the mound the Delta Devils are led by Eric Dowell with two wins.  Steven Barnes has a 4.68 earned run average and also leads the team with 29 strikeouts.  He is also holding the opposition to only a .237 batting average. 

The games this weekend will be split between two fields.  Saturday's action will begin at 2 p.m. with a single game to be played at Crump Field.  On Sunday the two teams will complete the series with a double-header beginning at 1 p.m.  The two games will be played at Paterson Field.
