Latest Hyundai Supplier Announced

A Florida-based company specializing in automotive interiors will manufacture air bags for Hyundai Motor Company's auto assembly plant in Montgomery.

The Korean auto maker announced recently that Breed Technologies of Lakeland, Florida will make driver-and-passenger side air bags for the company's Sonata sedan. The air bags will be manufactured at Breed's plant in Maryville, Tennessee. The company also makes seat belts at a factory in Greenville, about 30 miles south of Montgomery.

Officials said Breed will be a tier two supplier -- meaning they will deliver their product to Mobis Alabama, a South Korean-based firm under contract to build cockpit modules for Hyundai. Mobis also is building a 30 million dollar facility in west Montgomery that will open in the summer of 2004. Hyundai said the first vehicles should begin rolling off the assembly line at the one billion dollar plant in March 2005.
