WHITE HALL, AL (WSFA) - It has been quiet at White Hall Entertainment Center for months as locals drive by the building to get to one of the only other businesses in town--a recently opened grocery store.
Janice Harris lives in White Hall. When she heard Greenetrack opened its doors again, she had hope for her local gaming center.
"Maybe it will reopen and that the people in this community can get back to enjoying this casino and be employed at the casino."
WSFA 12 News spoke with attorneys for White Hall Entertainment Center.
They say they haven't even met to talk about re-opening. While they are thinking about it...there's still no timetable.
"Anything's possible," adds Harris.
Most folks in White Hall understand business is what keeps their community going. And with the gaming center closed, some feel the town has taken a step back. That's why one man is taking matters into his own hands.
"Right now I'm here to open a business, trying to help create new jobs in the area."
Eden Wallace is a White Hall native who lives in Atlanta.
He's opening a sports bar in the same shopping center as the new grocery store--mainly because he wants to see his hometown thrive.
"This has always been a dream of mine. In the beginning it really didn't have anything to do with the casino being here. I wanted to do it a long time ago."
He believes if the casino opens again, the two businesses will help each other.
For now, he and others watch and wait hoping for some sign of life and soon.
