Bama women's hoops heads for Toledo, WNIT Sweet 16

TUSCALOOSA, AL – The Alabama women's basketball team (18-14) will look for its third win of the postseason on Tuesday when it takes on the Toledo Rockets (25-8) in the Sweet 16 of the 2011 Women's National Invitation Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. Tipoff in John F. Savage Arena is slated for 7 p.m. CT.

"Our team is playing really well right now, and we want to continue this postseason run as long as we can," Alabama Head Coach Wendell Hudson said. "This will be another quick turnaround for us, as we will be playing our third game in six days, but we will be prepared when we hit the court Tuesday night."

Alabama and Toledo will be meeting for the first time on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide is 5-1 all-time versus Mid-American Conference opponents.

Alabama advanced to the third round of WNIT play with wins at Memphis and Northwestern last week. Most recently, the Tide knocked off the Wildcats, 72-70, thanks to a last-second layup by senior Tierney Jenkins. She finished the game with a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, marking her 20th double-double of the season. Alabama's defense has been stellar the last two games forcing a combined 46 turnovers that resulted in 53 points. In addition, the Tide collected 19 steals at Northwestern, which tied its season high.

Toledo enters Tuesday's contest fresh off a 67-52 victory over Auburn. Three players recorded double-figure points for the Rockets in the win over the Tigers, led by sophomore Yolanda Richardson's 20-point performance. She was followed by senior Melissa Goodall and junior Naama Shafir, who added 12 points apiece. Toledo, the regular-season Mid-American Conference Champions, have won 13 of its last 15 games.
