AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 20 Auburn baseball team heads to Starkville, Miss., for a three game series against Mississippi State this weekend. Game times are set for 6:30pm on Friday, 2pm on Saturday and 1:30pm on Sunday.
Auburn comes into the game 14-7, 2-1 SEC and is tied with Alabama for the SEC West lead after one weekend of play while Mississippi State is 15-6, 1-2 SEC.
"This is another challenging weekend in the SEC," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "We are going on the road for the first time in the SEC, playing a team that had a big win on Sunday over No. 2 Vanderbilt. We have to play at a high level, a championship level. Mississippi State is off to a great start and we know that it will be a battle. Anytime you get into the SEC, no matter who you play or where you play, it poses a great test."
Auburn's pitching rotation for the weekend is Jr. LHP Cory Luckie (1-1, 4.50 ERA) on Friday, Jr. RHP Will Irvin (3-0, 3.70) on Saturday and Jr. RHP Derek Varnadore (3-0, 3.09) on Sunday.
Mississippi State will send Jr. RHP Devin Jones (2-3, 3.03) to the mound on Friday and Sr. RHP Chris Stratton (3-1, 2.38) on Saturday but has not determined its Sunday starter yet.
Auburn has won six consecutive SEC series dating back to last year, it's longest streak since winning seven straight to open the 1995 season.
Auburn has also won the past four series with Mississippi State and has won the Friday night game in four of the last five series played between the two.
