MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The No. 22 Auburn University at Montgomery softball team recorded its first conference victory Tuesday, as it split a doubleheader at Faulkner on Thursday, winning the opener, 5-0, and falling in the nightcap, 5-4, on a walk-off home run.
As a result of the split, the Lady Senators now stand at 23-7 overall, but just 1-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Eagles are now 15-10 on the year, while also sporting a 1-3 record in league games.
In the opener, junior Brandi Richards tossed her third one-hitter of the season, striking out seven, to improve to 10-2 on the year.
Richards also led the team at the plate, with a double and a two-run home run. Seniors Taylor Burt and Ashton Nelson finished with a double each, while junior Shea Driggers added a RBI.
In the nightcap, Faulkner's Erin Byrd hit a walk-off home run to give the Lady Eagles the one-run victory.
Freshman Courtney Baker pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and five runs, while striking out two.
Freshman Jyssica Pepper finished 1-for-4 and drove in two runs for AUM. Driggers and Richards both finished 2-for-4, with Driggers hitting a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to erase a deficit. She also scored two runs, while Richards finished with two doubles.
AUM will return to action on Saturday, when it hosts Thomas University in a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
