Auburn football practice report

AUBURN – The Auburn football team held its second practice of the
2011 spring season Friday morning, working out in helmets and shorts for
more than two hours at Hutsell-Rosen Track and the Auburn Soccer
Complex.

Friday's practice under sunny skies gave the Tigers another
opportunity to take a look at the new squad that will work towards
defending Auburn's 2010 BCS National Championships. The practice
included individual and position drills, as well as 7-on-7 drills, as
the Tigers continue preparing for the 2011 season.

Following practice, head coach Gene Chizik said he was pleased with the
team's performance as the Tigers ready themselves to face the
difficult task of defending a national title.

"Today we had a really good second practice," said Chizik. "We
have a challenge in front of us. We're going to stay on track and
continue to build the foundation of Auburn, no different than we did two
years ago when we got here.

"We have a lot of young, inexperienced players. Today after practice
we asked them to raise their hands if they've started six games or
more at some point, and we didn't see very many hands go up."

Chizik also noted that with many spots on the depth chart open, the
Tigers are looking for players to rise to the occasion.

"We're excited about where we're at in terms of guys really eager
to step up to the plate because they know they have to, and our coaching
staff has done a really good job of preparing these guys," said
Chizik. "They have a great offseason conditioning program with Coach
(Kevin Yoxall) in terms of physically getting stronger and faster, and
Coach Yox has done a great job with them."

The Tigers will conclude the first week of spring practice with a 10
a.m. CT workout Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium. All practices are
closed to the public.
