MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) --The arrest report at the Montgomery Police Department shows 47-year-old Barry Cook was employed at Christian Life Church on Monticello Drive off the Eastern Boulevard.
The church website listed Cook as an instructor. Church leaders had no comment but we're told Mr. Cook was fired this week.
"It was a long day," said Child Protect Executive Director Jannah Bailey.
Bailey sat in on the forensic interview of the victim, a little boy under 12 years old. The interview took place in the safe confines of the Child Protect office.
Bailey says the account the victim gave was in her words.. heartbreaking.
"He was nervous and withdrawn and obviously very sad. He gave a credible story and it was sad for all of us as we spent many hours here yesterday," said Bailey.
At this point very little is known about Barry Cook. Bailey says he's not from the River Region and neither is the victim.
"I don't know what the relationship was between the two," said Bailey.
Court records show as of now Barry Cook remains in the Montgomery County Detention Center. Cook faces charges of sexual torture and aggravated child abuse.
Police say if and when Cook makes bond he will also face a third degree domestic violence charge.
Cook's bonds total $500,000.
