NORCROSS, Ga. - Auburn University at Montgomery junior Brandi Richards has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Richards earned the honor after picking up two victories on a pair of one-hitters in the circle for the Lady Senators. The Covington, Ga., native struck out 21 hitters in 14 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and five walks, while holding opponents to just a .045 batting average. She also added a .462 batting average, with four doubles, a home run and two runs batted in at the plate.
On the season, Richards sports an 11-2 record with a 1.35 earned run average. She has struck out 112 hitters in 93 2/3 innings and limit opponents to just a .138 batting average. At the plate, Richards currently leads the Lady Senators in all three Triple Crown categories, leading the team with a .495 batting average, nine home runs and 30 runs batted in.
During her career, Richards has earned conference pitcher of the week honors three times and player of the week honors twice.
Richards and the No. 22 Lady Senators will return to action on Wednesday, March 30, when they travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on No. 15 University of Mobile in a doubleheader. First pitch of the opener is slated for 4 p.m.
