AUBURN - The Auburn football team began its second week of spring practice with a two-hour workout in full pads Monday morning at Hutsell-Rosen Track and the Auburn Soccer Complex.
After practicing in warm, sunny weather last week, Monday brought drizzle and cooler temperatures. However, the weather did not prevent the Tigers from following their usual practice plan.
After opening the workout with special teams drills, the Tigers moved on to individual and position drills, as well as 7-on-7 drills. More special teams work was included mid-way through practice, and the offensive and defensive units worked against each other as a team for a portion of the workout.
Following practice, head coach Gene Chizik said that the second practice in full pads was helpful in allowing the staff to continue to evaluate players.
"I thought it was a good practice this morning," said Chizik. "It will be an ongoing process, but it was another good day to really look at - starting with our offensive and defensive lines - a lot of young players."
Chizik also stated that the rest of this week will be utilized to prepare the Tigers for a scrimmage at the end of the week.
"We'll continue on this path this week and at the end of the week we'll have a scrimmage Saturday in the stadium," said Chizik.
"We'll kind of be working during the week to build up to being able to have enough both on offense and defense to have a scrimmage."
The Tigers will return to the practice fields on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.
