MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A high speed chase across Montgomery County this morning ended with a large traffic jam and a Georgia woman behind bars.
According to Alabama State Troopers, a high speed chase ensued after authorities attempted to pull a 2006 Dodge Charger over for traveling at a high rate of speed on I-65. The case began at approximately 9:00 a.m. near the Montgomery/Elmore County line.
The suspect merged on to I-85 northbound and was the cause of a crash between a trooper who had recently joined pursuit and a bystander. Both vehicles were damaged but there were no injuries.
The suspect continued the chase at high speeds until Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department deployed stop spikes near the 16 mile marker, damaging the suspect's tires and forcing the car to come to a stop.
Troopers arrested 45-year-old Amy Vercande of Snellville, Georgia, for Speeding, Attempting to Elude and Reckless Endangerment.
Vercande was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Traffic was reduced to one lane on I-85 while authorities worked the scene.
