BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Birmingham television station reports that federal agents were seen removing boxes from the Birmingham Meds IV pharmacy Friday.
WBRC-TV reports that the agents wore shirts identifying themselves as "Police: U.S. Agents." The pharmacy has been out of business since its involvement in lawsuits over contaminated feeding bags that killed nine people in Alabama hospitals. A Shelby County judge granted a temporary restraining order preventing Meds IV from destroying any evidence which could be used in a lawsuit. Shelby Baptist Medical Center, one hospital where an infected patient died, has filed a lawsuit against Meds IV.
Lawsuits against the pharmacy are also being filed by families of those affected by the outbreak of the Serratia marcescens bacteria.
