ATMORE, AL (WSFA) - Alabama's Holman Correctional Facility is back under control after an incident this morning where inmates took control of a dormitory at the prison.
According to the Alabama Department of Corrections at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning inmates were able to riot. For safety reasons, all security officers were ordered out of the dorm and into the hallway. DOC reports that the dorm houses roughly 115 inmates, but not all of them were involved in the take-over.
No injuries or property damage was reported.
Initial attempts by the ADOC's Correctional Emergency Response team to regain control of the facility and compliance by the inmates failed.
At approximately 11:15 a.m. CERT was able to regain control of the dormitory without major injury. ADOC reports there were a few minor injuries to inmates who refused "lawful orders" but none requiring off-site medical treatment.
