After two weeks of picks, you'd think I'd be getting the hang of this. But you'd be wrong. Just like I was last week in picking Auburn, Alabama, Alabama State and Ole Miss.
For the record, the record last week looks like this: 7-3 in the SEC. 2-1 outside the conference. For the season: 17-8 overall. 14-5 in the SEC.
So it's on to week 3, with several teams beginning conference play.
Arkansas at Texas - As much as I like the Razorbacks, I don't think they can hang with the Horns in Austin. Texas 31, Arkansas 21
South Carolina at Georgia - The winner moves to the front of the line in the SEC East. Lou Holtz is working his magic again, but the Dawgs are still too strong between the hedges. Georgia 24, South Carolina 20
Florida A&M at Florida - After blowing that 3-touchdown lead in the second-half against Miami, Ron Zook's seat is only getting hotter. Bama State beat Florida A&M, and so will the Gators. Florida 49, Florida A&M 14
Louisiana-Monroe at Ole Miss - Yes, the Rebels have Eli Manning. But no, they don't have a defense. They've given up 65 points in two games. Alabama gave up 44 - in the entire '66 season. (But I digress). Ole Miss 42, Louisiana Monroe 7
Western Illinois at LSU - C'mon Coach Saban. Who made your non-conference schedule - Kansas State's Bill Snyder? The Bengal Tigers have outscored Louisiana-Monroe and Arizona 108-20, putting the "death" in Death Valley. LSU 45, Western Illinois 9
Mississippi State at Tulane - State took last week off after losing the opener to Oregon. This could be a close one, but I'm giving Jackie Sherrill the benefit of the doubt. Mississippi State 28, Tulane 24
Auburn at Vanderbilt - I'm going to keep picking the Tigers, and one of these days they'll prove me right. Unless they go 0-12. How has it gone down so far so fast? Auburn 31, Vanderbilt 17
Kentucky at Alabama - I think Brodie Croyle is still bruised up from all those licks he took last week from the Sooners. Time to crank up the running game. Alabama 31, Kentucky 24
Troy State at UAB - After back-to-back blowouts on the road to Kansas State and Minnesota, the Trojans will match up better against the Blazers. But I haven't seen much from TSU's offense yet. UAB 21, Troy State 13
Lincoln at Tuskegee - Home opener for the Golden Tigers, who bounced back last week from a season-opening loss. Tuskegee 27, Lincoln 13
Alcorn State at Alabama State - Tarvaris Jackson and Keldrick Williams: back at the Bowl. What could be better? They were a pleasure to watch in high school. And there are many more "Fever Country" stars on the Hornets. Coach Coe improves to 2-1 after this one. Alabama State 30, Alcorn State 14
