KANSAS CITY, MO. ---- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team climbed four spots to No. 17 in the second edition of the 2011 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, which the NAIA announced on Wednesday.
Only one team, Biola (Calif.) University, made a bigger leap in the poll, climbing from No. 19 to No. 7 this week.
The Senators, who currently stand at 29-14 overall, earned 318 total points, up from 192 last week.
Oklahoma City University maintained the No. 1 spot, earning 622 total points and 21-of-22 first-place votes. Lee University earned the lone remaining first-place vote and come in No. 2 with a total of 602 points. Embry-Riddle held on to the third spot, while Brewton-Parker and Oklahoma Baptist round out the top five.
The Southern States Athletic Conference led all leagues with six teams in the poll. Joining the Senators, Lee and Brewton-Parker were Southern Poly (No. 20), Belhaven (No. 23) and Faulkner (No. 25). Shorter was also listed among the others receiving votes.
AUM has won five straight games and 18 of its last 20 games. The Senators will return to action later today, when they take on Georgia Southwestern State University at 5 p.m., in Americus, Ga.
