ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - WSFA 12 News has confirmed through the Autauga County Emergency Management Agency and other sources that there is significant damage in the county at this hour. Damage reports are coming in from Elmore County as well, but no word on injuries.
WSFA 12 News spoke with Tammy Klimek in Autauga Co. who confirmed that Boone's Chapel Baptist Church near the Posey Crossroads area has sustained heavy damage to the front of the building. Ten to 20 homes have been "destroyed" according to some.
There are several people missing and several others are being transported to area hospitals. Details limited.
There are also reports of heavy damage in the area surrounding the church. Specific additional information unavailable at this moment.
There are reports of trees down across Interstate 65 near the 190 mile marker.
A home on County Road 40 and Hwy. 82 is reported to have minor porch damage, but a brick home on County Road 57 has suffered roof damage. It's unknown of the extent of that damage or any injuries at this time. A mobile home has been thrown off its foundation in the same area.
