NORTHSIDE, OH (FOX19) -

During a news conference at the Cincinnati Police Headquarters, the name of the man who was shot and killed early Monday morning has been released. David Paul Hebert, a.k.a. Bones, 40, was considered a suspect in a "cutting" that happened just moments before the fatal shooting.

Police say Hebert was originally from New Orleans. Friends of Hebert tell us he moved to Cincinnati from Portland, Oregon late last year.

Four officers responded to a "cutting" that happened just before 3 a.m. The victim in the cutting gave the officers a description of two suspects, one being Herbert and the other an unidentified female. The suspects were seen in the area of Virginia and Chase Avenues, where David Paul Hebert was asked to stop. Hebert was asked to take his hands out of his pockets two times, and when he did, he pulled out a 13" switchblade out of his pocket and swiped it toward one of the officers and took a step.

That is when the cover officer, Sgt. Andrew Mitchell, fired two rounds, which both hit Hebert. Hebert was pronounced dead at the scene. Along with Mitchell, Officer Brian Kneller, Lawerence Johnson and Nicolini Stavale are all on paid administrative leave  .

Three investigations are being conducted because of this shooting. An internal investigation, which is procedure when something like this happens, a criminal investigation of Hebert, and a third investigation from an outside group whose role is to investigate the Cincinnati Police Department; this group is called Citizens Complaint Authority.

Friends of "Bones" tell FOX19 that he was "a wild man in a good way." They also tell us that he was a drummer and he bounced from band to band. He also worked at North Slice for a while.

Friends are gathering at 4 p.m. at Hoffner Park to talk about their friend.
