MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate is taking up an Arizona-style immigration bill.
The Senate voted Tuesday to make the bill its first priority on Thursday. The legislation sponsored by Republican Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale is similar to a bill by Republican Rep. Micky Hammon of Decatur that won approval in the House two weeks ago. It provides for verification of legal status during job applications and traffic stops.
The House and Senate will have to agree on one version before a law can be enacted.
