SWAC Golf Champs to compete in National Minority Invite

The 2011 SWAC Women's Golf Champion Alabama State Lady Hornets will compete this weekend in the National Women's Collegiate Golf Classic to be held at the Stone Mountain Golf Course just outside of Atlanta, Ga.

The classic is a 3-day event, where Friday was a day for the college women to play with business professionals, with the 36-hole tournament being contested Saturday and Sunday.

"There are some strong teams are participating, and this will be a really good tune up for us for regional's," Hornets' head golf coach Gary Grandison said. "It's a very important tournament for us."

The Lady Hornets are coming off their first ever SWAC Golf Championship, rallying from a one-stroke deficit after the opening day to defeat perennial champion Jackson State. Despite coming off the emotional conference title victory earlier in the week, Grandison said he has no concern about his team refocusing this weekend.

"We'll continue to emphasize the importance of this tournament and make sure we get back into the mode," Grandison said. "We have celebrated the SWAC Championship, but now we need to get back into tournament mode."
