Prattville officer critically injured

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

Prattville motorcycle officer Larry McDuffie was critically injured during a hit and run crash Saturday night.

Prattville Police Captain Tim Huggins tells WSFA 12 News a 2002 GMC Savana van struck Officer McDuffie and his motorcycle at the intersection of Cobbs Ford Road and McQueen Smith Road, then fled the scene.

Authorities found the vehicle and the driver, 47-year-old, Martin Quintero. Both are in police custody.

McDuffie is in critical condition and undergoing tests at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. The hospital staff has a positive outlook.

Huggins said this is a tough blow for their department.

"You always worry about your people at all hours of the day and night. That's always on your mind," Huggins said. "The safety of the officers is paramount to each and every officer who works here."

This is not McDuffie's first major wreck. He was thrown from his motorcycle during another crash last November in Prattville.

McDuffie has been with the police department for three years.
