Leaders in Phenix City may clamp down on yard sales.
Police say some residents are having yard sales every weekend. Mayor Sonny Coulter says that it's like living beside a thrift store for their neighbors.
So the Phenix City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on a new law that would make it a misdemeanor for residents to hold more than two yard sales in a single year. Violators would face fines ranging from $50 to $500.
Council member Jimmy Wetzel says the proposed law may be too strict. He says limiting people to four sales a year may be better.
The ordinance could send some bargain hunters across the Chattahoochee River to Columbus, Ga., where dozens of yard sales are held each weekend and aren't regulated.
