Authorities investigating a fatal house fire in Alabama say they wrongly identified dog bones as belonging to a man, and they didn't realize the mistake until relatives found additional remains in the charred rubble of the house.

Officials say 99-year-old Bertha Yeager and her 78-year-old son, James Barlow, died in a house fire in Dallas County in January. Authorities removed two sets of remains after the blaze.

But Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman says relatives recently found a third set of bones at the site. He says one of the original sets of bones was from a dog, and the remains found by relatives were those of a man.

Family members want the investigation re-opened. Relative Marcus Kelley says investigators didn't tell the family about the mistake.
