MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) - State fire investigators are back on the scene of a massive fire in a recycling plant that started Monday afternoon. Hot spots remain and officials said they expect those to burn themselves out.
There's no word yet on the cause for the fire that forced temporary evacuations of residents near the Luvala First Material System plant at 20884 U.S. Highway 331 in the Sellers community. The company is a large recycling center.
There were no injuries reported in the blaze.
The large fire started Monday afternoon and thick, black smoke resembling a tornado swirled into the air. The smoke could be seen for miles.
More than 100 firefighters worked to get the fire under control. U.S. 331 had to be closed while firefighters used it as a staging area.
Alabama Power workers have restored service to about 60 nearby residents who lost power when poles and lines were damaged.
