Ala. House to adjourn to storm-ravaged districts

Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard informed lawmakers Wednesday evening that the Alabama House of Representatives will adjourn early Thursday in order to allow members of the Legislature to return home to their communities.

In a memo to members of the House of Representatives, Speaker Hubbard said lawmakers were needed more in their districts than in Montgomery.

"As all of you know, severe weather continues to ravage our state today, causing serious damage, devastating loss of life and terrible suffering for many Alabamians. With so many communities in a state of crisis, it is important for Members to be home in our districts providing leadership, especially those in affected areas. As such, we will adjourn [Thursday] morning shortly after establishing a quorum at 10:00 a.m."

Members will dismiss after establishing a quorum and conducting necessary business only. The House plans to reconvene Tuesday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m.
