Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano got a first hand look at the devastation in Smithville.
She and other federal officials such as Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Craig Fugate saw the aftermath and met with the town's survivors.
Napolitano had a hard time putting into words the degree of the destruction. She's promising that federal help will keep flowing.
"This is not gonna be a quick comeback or an immediate one, but it will be, in my view a complete one when all is said and done, and that will be on behalf on all of us who are here. I understand that a number of people lost their lives, and indeed two are having their services this afternoon and that, and that too reminds us of the severity of this storm and the toll that mother nature has taken," Napolitano said.
Residents attended funeral services for two of those 15 people killed in Wednesday's tornado. All but four grave stones at Smithville's Cemetery were knocked down and buried under piles of debris.
Crews worked Sunday to get the cemetery back in order. More than a dozen people are still missing after the storm.
