For over a year now WSFA 12 New has produced an ongoing series of reports entitled "Taking Back Our Neighborhoods", stories about people doing things to improve their communities.
There is a vacant lot across the street from WSFA 12 News that has been vacant for many years. We keep it mowed and clean, but… it is still a vacant lot.
In the fall of last year we decided to improve it.
We contacted Dr. Carolyn Robinson of the Department of Horticulture at Auburn University, and she offered to use our lot as a project for her landscape design class this semester.
We told her 11 students what we wanted to achieve in that space and they went to work. Below are the students with their design plans.
We will choose one soon and this summer we'll go to work implementing the winning plan, one small step in taking back our neighborhoods.
