Bama player invited to USA basketball U19 World Championship team trials

Alabama freshman Kaneisha Horn is one of 35 of the nation's top 19-and-under athletes invited to participate in the 2011 USA Basketball Women's U19 National Team Trials, which will be held May 22-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Of the 35 at the trials, 12 will be selected to the team that will compete at the 2011 U19 World Championship, July 21-31, in Puerto Montt, Chile.

In Horn's first season with the Crimson Tide, she started in 28 games, averaged 8.6 points per game and was second on the team in rebounds with 5.7 boards per contest. She scored double-figure points nine times last season, including a season-high of 21 at Florida. Horn collected the first double-double of her career with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Alabama's win at Mississippi State.

Horn was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Nov. 29, and earned a spot on the 2011 SEC All-Freshman Team. In the league, Horn ranked sixth in free-throw percentage (.688) and 17th in rebounds.

In addition to the U19 World Championships, the team will train at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., as part of the ESPN Rise Girls Showcase. Following training, it will take on the Brazil U19 National Team before heading to Chile.
