Ala. Power transformer catches fire in Autauga Co.

Thick, black smoke that billowed into the Autauga County sky Thursday afternoon was sparked when a transformer at an Alabama Power substantion caught fire.

The incident happened on Autauga County Road 39, or County Line Road, around 6pm Thursday.

Jan Ellis with Alabama Power confirmed the equipment failure," but it was not immediately known why the transformer blaze started.

Ellis said the company was able to reroute power to other transformers and no customers were without electricity.
