ASU falls short against Auburn, 7-5

The Alabama State baseball team closed its 2011 regular season Wednesday with a 7-5 loss to Auburn at Plainsman Park.

The Hornets (14-27) trailed 4-0 before chipping away at the deficit. ASU got to within 5-4 in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Ron James.

After Auburn pushed the lead back to 6-4, the Hornets' Jourdan Mott scored on an error in the eighth to make the score 6-5. However,  Auburn scored an insurance run in the bottom of the inning for the final margin.

Alabama State will play next Wednesday in the SWAC Tournament against Southern University in Shreveport, La. At 6 p.m. at Fairgrounds Field.
