MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Pounding drums and loud students, normally that would be a teachers worst nightmare, but not in this class. Amy Jackson teaches K-6th grade music at Garrett Elementary School in Montgomery. "I love seeing their faces light up, especially when they learn new skills, things like self discipline and self confidence," said Jackson.
Ms. Jackson has been in the classroom for 13-years. She's been making music for the last 6 years at Garrett Elementary School. The parent who nominated her for the award says she encourages the students, but also demands their best. Her commitment, passion, and high standards make her stand out every day.
Ms. Jackson loves every one of her little drummers. "I try to get to know each one of them and figure out what their challenges and accomplishments are. I also let them work together and help each other."
She's leading the band, giving her students a chance to learn about music and have fun at the same time. Ms. Amy Jackson from Garrett Elementary School in Montgomery is a real Class Act.
